October Catch-up

I was home last week and no travel again this week! Now that I'm caught up on life, I can get caught up on blogs. After my Baltimore trip, I had two quick days at home that we filled with rides and laundry. I also try to do as much rehab and recovery as possible on my back and hip when I'm not in a plane, train, or automobile. While on the road, I travel with a special bag of goodies to keep my body happy.

Monday morning, I boarded a flight to Minneapolis and a real taste of Fall. The winds were howling making the landing worthy of a strong armrest hold. I bundled up for a walk from the hotel but otherwise stayed put, eating four meals at the hotel pub between work meetings. Tuesday evening, I flew to Dallas and back to Summer. Our pilot made life very interesting and precious when he dipped the wings back and forth in a rolling fashion. There was screaming and swearing but no explanation and no bad weather.

My colleague and I took a taxi to the conference hotel and immediately…

Back from Baltimore and Back on the Bike

After 5 days at home, I was back on the road Wednesday morning bound for the Washington DC area. I flew into Baltimore, flights were 50% cheaper plus I was able to go direct. The 4hr flight was uneventful, but the 45mile 2hr taxi was brutal. I couldn't believe the amount of traffic from Baltimore to Alexandria on a Wednesday afternoon. If there is a next time, I'll rethink the logistics.

Thursday morning, I got in a walk and some local history before my meetings. That afternoon, I was back in a taxi to a hotel near the airport to ease the pain of Friday's 7am flight. We got there a little faster, but still sat in bumper to bumper most the way. I thought traffic in LA last week was bad.

I got through a few emails then decided to go out and explore. Going by car/bus during rush hour was not an option, so I researched mass transit options to both Washington DC and Baltimore. Although DC has all the famous sites, Baltimore won based on time. I took the light rail into Baltimor…

No UCI Worlds Hangover for Me

I still can't believe it's only been a week since we flew home from UCI Worlds in Richmond. I needed a little break from blogging after our amazing trip, but now I'm back. I appreciate all the feedback and I'm glad they brought some insight into women's cycling and what it was like to be on the ground as a spectator and supporter. What an incredible experience!
Even as we left on Monday, the excitement continued. I was asked for an autograph at Delta check-in and the airport was full of cycling celebrities. We made it home without extra baggage fees or delays and even got in a ride before dark. Pretty crazy to think about our daily cycling loop being training ground for Peter Sagan, Linda Villumsen, the BMC Racing Team, and others that won in Richmond. We might as well start calling Park City a ski and cycling training center.

Some people take vacation days and feel rested when they return to work. Not us. It didn't help that I committed to some onsite visits b…
